Born and raised on a very famous Ayrshire farm, Kevin McKell is a true Ayrshire enthusiast, passionate about Kellcrest Farm.
Kevin started out the same as many of us, helping his father feed the cows, then the heifers and gradually taking on more and more responsibilities. He always knew that he wanted to work on the farm, so after completing high school, he took the diploma course at MacDonald College and graduated in 2002.

At Kellcrest, his uncle Danny has always looked after the cows and his father Alan is in charge of the calves and the fieldwork. Kevin fits in well because when I ask him what he likes best about farming, his reply is: "Everything".
Kellcrest markets their exceptional herd well and this is an aspect of the farm that Kevin enjoys. When I was in South Africa in 2006, a farmer asked me f I knew Kevin McKell. Needless to say I was surprised to e halfway around the world and meet someone who was pleased that Kevin took the time to answer his e-mails and questions about Kellcrest cows. When this farmer decided to purchase some embryos, it was Kevin he wanted to buy them from.

Kevin enjoys helping sell embryos and recognizes that it is important to keep the international markets that they have developed over the years. Kevin says they will continue to raise bulls with good potential and sell animals whenever possible.
| The border closing had a big impact at Kellcrest, but with Kevin having finished college and full-time on the farm, they decided to purchase quota and milk more cows. They now milk between 65-70 cows and Kevin feels that this is the right size for them. They will keep improving, breeding the best animals possible and taking part in shows. |
