Shower wears a Triple Crown!!!
A four-year-old cow who remains unbeaten after three consecutive outings at one of Australia’s leading Ayrshire shows, was named Champion cow at the 2008 Sydney Royal Easter show.
This popular Ayrshire cow, Regal Park Shower VG88, then won the Reserve All-Breeds title in a close tussle with the champion Jersey – both the Ayrshire and the Jersey cows tied on points when the judges votes were counted, with the Jersey winning on a count back because of she received one extra first placed vote.
Bred and owned by David, Sharon, Ashleigh and Joshua Mayo of Regal Park Ayrshires at Gerringong, NSW, Regal Park Shower is sired by Royalcroft Brendan and is from a cow family that has won show championships and production prizes for many generations. Her previous winnings include; Juvenile Champion at Sydney Royal and International Dairy Week in 2005, Intermediate at Sydney Royal in 2006 and All-Australian Ayrshire for her age, in 2005 and 2006. Shower is also the first Ayrshire to have won the Juvenile, Junior & Senior Championships at Sydney Royal.
The judge for the Ayrshire show was Richard Cole of Liddell Ayrshire stud, Forbes, NSW, Australia.
“Class winners continually impressed both the ringside and myself with their style, balance, bone quality and in the cow sections, outstanding mammary systems.
The Champion cow was in tremendous form. She has a lot of style, width and balance and a great mammary system with an extremely strong median suspensory ligament and a high, wide rear udder,” Mr Cole said.
Vicki Smart & Paul Timbs, Mayfield Farms, Jaspers Brush, NSW were thrilled when their young cow, Regal Park Vicki’s Surprise GP84 was named Junior Champion, in a hotly contested young cow section. Surprise is sired by Kellcrest Harmony, her dam is this year’s Champion cow - Regal Park Shower. Her impressive show career to date includes Juvenile Champion at Sydney Royal and International Dairy Week in 2007, along with being Reserve All-Australian Ayrshire Dry heifer under 24 months.
The Eagles family from the Paschendaele stud, Gooloogong, NSW won the most successful exhibitor for the Ayrshire section. Their tremendous team included the Juvenile Champion, Paschendaele Trident Rose and Reserve Senior Champion cow, Paschendaele Stella Tee Too, both sired by Ardrossan EV Kates Trident, along with the Reserve Intermediate Champion, Paschendaele Princess Blossom, a Kellcrest Harmony daughter.
The Reserve Juvenile Champion was Hurlstone Felicity Norma, shown by Hurlstone Agricultural High School of Hurlstone Ayrshires, Glenfield, NSW. Norma is a daughter of Yellow Briar Journalist.
NSW Ayrshire breeders should be congratulated for putting on a spectator show at the 2008 Sydney Royal.
